About the NHMU

The origin of the Historical Museum is rooted in the archeological exposition that was organized at the Antiquities and Arts Museum of Kyiv in 1899.

Nowadays the NHMU houses the richest collections in the country, more than 800000 exhibits. There are important archeological and numismatic collections, ethnographic and weaponry objects, significant examples of chronicles and arts, etc.

Here you can evoke the history from the Stone Age till the Present while scanning the exhibits: the Mizyn culture’s meander carved in ivory by mammoth hunter in Upper Paleolithic Era… the Cucuteni-Trypillian hut modeled by the ceramist in the 4th – 3rd millennium BCE… the Scythian finial made of bronze in the form of the Tree-of-Life with beasts and birds around the Thunderer Papay … the “Icarus” ballet costume of Serge Lifar.
